When film met fashion

I am a sucker for classic films, especially old ones. I love it how everything presented to us, due to certain limitations, has a reason of being on the screen. Every little thing is there to emphasize the characters' story. And fashion is no exception. Due to fashion's role, you can watch the films on mute and still understand the struggles, the joys, the adventure the lead is going through.

The weather in my country it's throwing one last fit before spring is finally here, so due to extreme weather reports we are facing this weekend, I am planning to stay in and watch some oldies together with my significant other.

My choices for this weekend are:

Now, voyager (1942)

This one is probably one of the best make-over films of all time. In a few words the film tells us the transformation of Charlotte Vale, played by Bette Davis, from an introverted, awkward right on the edge of a breakdown girl to a true beautiful, full of life woman, able let herself feel love.

The mastermind behind Now, Voyager drama is the costume designer Orry-Kelly. The items to look for are the beautiful cape, exquisite hats, sparkling dresses, the little black dress, and white gloves.

You can understand her transformation through her entire wardrobe, when still in doubt of her beauty, Charlotte wears big hats to cover her face, when invited to dinner she covers herself with a cape, to hide her insecurities, but when she decides to become her own self you can see her wearing white beaded dresses,  a daring v-neck, and the most amazing ruffles.

Et Dieu... créa la femme(1956)

I believe this to be that one film in every actor's life, which give their place in film history. I love Brigitte Bardot's sexiness, I love her courage to play such infamous characters, and most of all I love the fashion and the great pieces these kind of films give us. Some of the most iconic scenes were where Juliete Hardy dances as if she were possessed by demons, when she lies naked in the sun. Have you seen anything more sexy than a woman dressed only in her man's shirt?!

Pierre Balmain knew exactly what he wanted and how to transform BB's character in one of the most sexy characters in history. Pieces to think of: breton tops, red body fitted dress, black shirt with a striped skirt, wearing your man shirt, front buttoned pencil skirt,or shirt dress.
